A child can begin learning guitar as soon as they are capable of holding a guitar, placing their fingers on the strings and strumming. Typically, this can happen as early as age 4. especially if the teacher is patient and motivated.
I welcome parents to sit in on their child's lesson whenever they want and I require that a parent joins the student in the lesson if the child is under the age of 8. At least, until the child begins to get a good grasp on guitar.
Children who are under the age of 8 have a difficult time understanding the assignments and remembering what to practice, even if it's carefully noted. Many younger kids become quickly frustrated and quit lessons if their parents are not present.
If the parents are present during the lessons, I find that the parents encourage their children to practice more and they have a greater ability to help the child. Another great idea is if the parent can actually take the lesson with the child. Why not get the most value out of your money and learn guitar with your child? I teach guitar to parents and their children for the same price as one child.
I teach guitar all over the city of Indianapolis and my Guitar Academy location is on the south side near greenwood, Indiana. Please call and schedule your first lesson. I'd love to help you.
